Health of the Planet
About this Series

Health of the Planet is a 15-year series that sits at the intersection of environmental activism, medical science, and fine art. If the Amazon rainforest is the lungs of our planet, the planet is a patient whose health is measurable, visible, and at risk. Miller collaborated with scientists in Brazil — vets, botanists, radiologists, and zoo professionals— to literally x-ray the flora and fauna of the Amazon, submitting Brazil’s biodiversity to a kind of diagnostic examination. For this global medical check-up, Miller worked with the Instituto Goeldi in Belém to collect animals, and with the Woods Hole Research Center to assemble satellite maps of deforestation, layering all of it into silk-screen paintings to diagnose our cultural condition.
